Inspiring the next generation of construction workers

Since commencing on site, our team at Sidcup Storeyhouse have been engaging with students from the University of Greenwich to support their studies, using our project in Bexley as a practical example. Activities have included presentations on methods of construction and the design process and virtual site tours giving students the opportunity to see first-hand just how quickly progress is made on site. Over the summer period, we were really excited to be able to offer one of Greenwich University’s Civil Engineering undergraduates the opportunity to work with us as a Trainee Site Manager. Rohan Randhawa joined us and quickly became an integral part of the team, assisting our Project Manager and learning as he went.  A huge thanks to Mike Jameson and all the team at Sidcup Storeyhouse for making this possible.

Project Completion – National Youth Theatre

The National Youth Theatre (NYT) was awarded £2m from the Mayor of London’s ‘Good Growth Fund’ to undergo a major renovation to its Holloway Road building in North London within a growing creative campus. This essential upgrade by award-winning architects DSDHA enhances facilities to create a National Creative Production House. It enables NYT to double the number of young people they engage through their annual programme, where creative on-stage, off-stage and digital talent of the future will receive world-class training and development through free and affordable drama opportunities that champion diversity, creativity and routes into the creative industries. Neilcott was appointed following a competitive single-stage tender to transform the NYT building to meet their strategic expansion plans and the finished project looks fantastic!  Check out this article on the project. The facility is now ready to welcome future stars of stage and screen!

Employee Ownership
Trust

Charting an exciting, forward-thinking and sustainable path, on 2nd March, 2020 the Neilcott Group transitioned to Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) status. This initiative ensures that the underlying principles which have governed the Group’s operational and commercial approach and which have underpinned outstanding performance over many years, will remain embedded in our company ethos for the long term. The move will also enable the ambitions of all our staff, our clients and our supply chain to be ever more closely aligned in the continued pursuit of construction excellence. EOT status entails no changes within the management team; Malcolm Elster continues to lead the company in his role as Managing Director, driving the ongoing success of the business, supported by his fellow Directors, Deputy Managing Director Rob Weatherston, Construction Director Neil Harrison and Commercial Director Joe Gissane. This arrangement will however provide a sound structure within which a smooth and seamless transition of responsibilities to our new generation of construction talent can be ensured.

Supporting Local Communities – The Clement James Centre

The Clement James Centre is an award-winning charity that empowers the community to release its potential in one of London’s most disadvantaged areas. The charity was set up to support members of the community by providing education, employment and wellbeing support, in a safe and compassionate space. Based in Shepherd’s Bush, just a few miles from our Sand’s End Community Centre Site, we were keen to get involved with the charity as part of our commitment to supporting the communities in which we work.  Neilcott employees volunteered their time to support one of the centre’s Business Engagement days.  Neilcott employees worked 1:1 with the centre’s clients, taking part in various challenges to boost confidence and give advice on interview and presentation skills.  The day culminated in a series of mock interviews, where participants were able to practise what they had learnt in a safe and supportive environment.  In addition, Neilcott also provided a financial contribution that covered the costs associated with running the programme, therefore allowing the centre to continue to support those that are vulnerable and at risk of long term unemployment through these invaluable workshops.  The day was a real success, with participants from both sides benefitting from the experience.  We look forward to collaborating with the Clement James Centre again in the future.    For more information on the centre and to find out how you can get involved, please visit their website: www.clementjames.org.
