World Sleep Day 2024

Today we are highlighting #WorldSleepDay – an annual event intended to be a celebration of sleep and a call to action on important issues related to sleep, including medicine, education, social aspects and driving. Sleep is essential to health and when we don’t get enough sleep, or our sleep is poor quality, we suffer the short and long-term consequences of sleep deprivation and fatigue. This results in irritability, less patience, less empathy, slower thinking, more sluggishness and less of an ability to cope with the unexpected. At Neilcott, we understand that working in the construction industry can often lead to poor sleep quality as a result of irregular shift patterns, long hours, early starts & demanding workloads. We are proud supporters of #TheLighthouseCharity, who have partnered with Sleepstation to help combat this issue. Sleepstation offer a completely free and clinically proven sleep improvement programme to help address poor sleep in the industry. Sleepstation looks at the underlying reasons as to why people are having problems and has been proven to address even the most severe sleep issues. Dedicated support teams deliver a plan tailored to any of the identified issues so you can begin your journey to better sleep. You can access Sleepstation via the Lighthouse Club app now.

For #WomenInConstructionWeek 2024 we are celebrating all of the brilliant women that are a part of Neilcott Construction Limited, taking this week as an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the many roles & departments within the construction industry. Here are just a few of the faces that you’ll see at Neilcott, within Finance, Estimating, Document Control or Human Resources, Aftercare, IT, Reception or Health & Safety, Submissions, Social Value, Sustainability or Marketing. Neilcott is proud to support both #IWD2024, in unison with #WomenInConstructionWeek. SHEQ Manager: Rhonda Tapley Our #SHEQ Manager Rhonda Tapley is a qualified Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental professional. Starting her career in the construction industry in 2014 within the Mechanical, Electrical & Rail infrastructure / construction sector working on multiple projects ranging from £4m to £250m. In 2018, moving away from Rail and back into the commercial construction sector, as SHEQ Manager, Rhonda was responsible for carrying out site inspections, quality audits, provision of regulatory and legislative advice, along with implementing the Integration Management System including the Environmental management system and health and safety processes and procedures. Joining us last year, Rhonda is a valuable addition to the Neilcott team & oversees the safety, health, environment, and quality assurance across our sites. Sustainability & Submissions Director: Ashleigh Goss Leading an all women team, Ashleigh Goss oversees our company-wide mission to achieve Carbon Net Zero by 2030, implementing strategies to improve how our construction activities effect the environment and deliver lasting social value in the communities we work in. Ashleigh is also in charge of coordinating, reviewing and managing all of our qualitative tender submissions. Ashleigh brings a variety of international & consultancy experience prior to her move into the main contracting world by joining Neilcott in 2019. Social Value Manager: Jenny Bignell Our Social Value Manager Jenny Bignell works with clients & our project teams to create, manage, monitor & report out Social Value & Responsible Procurement commitments. Jenny is an invaluable member of any community engagement team – liaising with building occupiers through to undertaking curriculum-led learning activities such as Big Build or Lego Tower challenges, attending careers events or hosting CV-writing workshops for students or local community organisations. “Having undertaken my A-Levels there was real pressure in applying for University and getting a degree, however, not knowing what I wanted to do I decided to enter the world of work. I started as an administrator within the accounts department at a local construction company, and became instantly aware of the amazing and varied opportunities on offer, from administration, marketing, resident liaison and HR. I was fortunate enough to be offered the opportunity to work within the marketing/bid department whilst a colleague was on maternity leave, where I soon learned of my ability and interest in pursuing a career within preconstruction. Since then I have worked with a number of construction companies, enhancing my skillset and understanding of the built environment, and more recently taking an active part in the delivery of S106 commitments.” Human Resources Manager: Toni Hodson Today we are shining a spotlight on our HR Administrator, Toni Hodson, who has been with us since February 2002. Starting off as a Secretary and shortly promoted to Directors Secretary before securing her current position as HR Administrator in 2015. Toni is an integral part of the Neilcott team, overseeing the recording, updating & documentation of the human resources department, maintaining employee records, compiling reports & supporting the continuous improvement of all HR processes and protocols, as well as aiding employees with onboarding, training & any issues. Senior Sustainability & ESG Manager: Sasha Webster As our Senior Sustainability & ESG Manager, Sasha Webster, has experience in construction environmental management, environmental assessments, innovation initiatives and delivering projects that target carbon, resource efficiency and social value. Sasha is qualified in Environmental Management and has a detailed understanding of delivering low carbon solutions. She works with clients to identify any alternative materials that could help improve carbon/energy efficiency, working with the wider team to support effective delivery & reporting against targets using SmartWaste.
