Sands End Community Arts Centre wins RIBA London Building of the Year!
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has announced our Sands End Arts and Community Centre by Mæ Architects has won the 2022 London Building of the Year.
The new centre caters to the local community by providing spaces for social and educational functions, clubs, events, and a café.
Sustainable materials were used in the construction of the centre, with the structure of the pavilion being built out of responsibly sourced CLT timber and over 35% of the building material is composed of recycled materials.
RIBA President, Simon Allford said:
“Winning a regional Building of the Year Award is a major achievement. Across the country projects have been selected for this accolade because they are exemplars of the very best of innovative, intelligent and delightful design. The results of positive collaboration between architect and client, and design team and contractor, they demonstrate that high quality, sustainable architecture can positively impact the lives of the people that engage with it. My warmest congratulations to all those involved.”
We are really proud of our involvement in the project and would like to congratulate Mæ Architects on this incredible achievement.
