Stunning photos from our YMCA project in the Architects’ Journal. The scheme’s first phase provides purpose-built supported living for 121 residents in south-west London, with ensuite bathrooms, shared cooking & communal facilities, a public gym and café. The space also provides training and counselling spaces, and commercial space for let, all of which will support the YMCA’s residents journey to independent living.
The YMCA St Paul’s Group is a provider of youth and community services and is one of London’s largest providers of specialist supported housing. YMCA residents had active involvement in designing the internal layouts for the building and choosing furniture, collaborating with interior designer Space Positive – who specialises in psychologically informed environments and trauma informed spaces.
The buildings sustainability features include extensive green roofs to provide insulation, absorb rainwater and create a habitat for wildlife, alongside bird and bat boxes designed to encourage birds and bats into the areas.
